It is quite acceptable to store your baby's food in plastic containers in the fridge or freezer. However, you need to be aware that not only baby food storage containers are made equal. Some in fact contain harmful chemicals that could prove detrimental to your child's health.
If you can avoid those containers that are made from polycarbonate (PC) plastic as these contain Bisphenol A (BPA). This is a synthetic estrogen which when mixed in with plastic materials ensures that they are strong, clear and resistant to shattering. However, food that is not only cooked and stored in such containers are likely to become contaminated over time by the BPA. This is because the BPA breaks down over and is then absorbed into whatever is contained within the container.
However, as a result of research carried out a number of companies who manufacture baby food storage containers have produced ones that are free of such harmful chemicals. So it is worth considering purchasing these over the containers you have currently.
